Dinner on the Cape

This evening at the pizza and ice cream shop along highway 6A  in Truro, Mass. we got one of those compliments that parents love to hear: "Your children are quite well behaved” followed by the somewhat unusual "they hardly bothered our dog at all."

"Thank you," I replied, sneaking a glance at the shaggy pile of black fur beneath their table, "your dog is very well behaved too." 

"Oh thank you,” they said, smiling at us with great teeth showing. “He really hates children, like really hates them."
